EPC band C deadline: 1 October 2030
All privately rented homes in England & Wales must reach EPC band C by 1 October 2030 for continued letting, unless exempt. Until then the interim Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard remains EPC band E. The maximum fine for breach is £30,000 per property, per breach. The C standard uses a dual metric (a fabric performance metric plus a smart-readiness/heating metric) on new-style EPCs. (GOV.UK, confirmed January 2026)

Budget early for EPC C. With the 1 October 2030 deadline approaching, spreading retrofit works across multiple tax years and stacking available grants can soften the cash impact. Treat the figures here as a starting point and firm them up with quotes.
